Make the Tartar SauceI n a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, dill, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and well combined. Refrigerate while preparing the sandwiches to allow the flavors to meld.
Cook the Fish Prepare the fish fillets according to the package directions until crispy and golden brown. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each fillet and allow it to melt.
Toast the Buns Spread the butter on the cut sides of the buns.Place them in a skillet over medium heat and toast until golden brown and lightly crisp.
Assemble the Sandwiches Spread a generous layer of tartar sauce on the bottom toasted bun.Top with the cheesy fish fillet, followed by a handful of chopped romaine lettuce.Spread additional tartar sauce on the top bun and place it on the sandwich.
Serve Serve immediately while the fish is hot and crispy and the buns are still warm.
For the closest fast-food-style fish sandwich experience, use brioche buns and let the tartar sauce chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. The extra resting time makes the sauce creamier, tangier, and packed with flavor.
